The issue wasn’t only how much to spend but how to apportion the spending. The numbers didn’t always matter as much as how priorities appeared to be ranked. To me, the negotiations should have been a process of compromises to address the nation’s needs in an order that could be defended to voters of both parties.

Coincidentally, after this meeting, the White House began filtering several “preemptive pardon” requests from members of Congress. A preemptive pardon, they argued, would prevent a potential Biden administration from prosecuting them in a political witch hunt for their efforts to save democracy. To me, “saving democracy” should not require a presidential pardon.

Trump continues to hurl insults in my direction. I learn how it feels to be on the other side. But I know enough not to react. That’s what he wants me to do. He wants me to be defensive. He wants to know when he’s hurt someone or gotten a rise out of them; he wants to project his hurt onto the source of it. Trump doesn’t care if you dispute him or call him a liar. Only silence bothers him. Being ignored drives him mad.
It certainly is good that Cassidy came to realize exactly how tRump operates. However many cab see EXACTLY HOW he operates merely by observation.
