Plays tend to be more realistic, therefore subtle. But in a musical every emotion is heightened. Characters aren’t hiding their feelings. They’re projecting them out to the back of the theater.
I should’ve stayed invisible. Because people who are invisible don’t have to worry about getting their feelings hurt.
Mom and I both know that shit happens, and there never needs to be a reason—only bad luck.
“An overture’s all the highlights from the show—happy songs, romantic songs, songs that make your heart swell. And as you sit back in your chair and let the music wash over you, your body relaxes. Because you know that for the next couple hours, you won’t have to worry about your own problems. You get to be transported to somebody else’s world.”
“Sarcasm is easy. Vulnerability is hard.”
Even a show like Beauty and the Beast has a message. (Who you are on the inside is more important than physical appearances—no matter how hot the actor playing Gaston is.)
Dramatic exits might be great onstage. But in real life, they fucking suck.
