“To think I would find…,” he said. He paused, seeming to wrestle with something, and shook his head taking a step back. He was breathing heavily, as if he was physically fighting to get something out.
“How about a Demon Queen? Is that a thing?” “Are you applying for the position, Elara?” he purred, stalking back toward me in a way that screamed of seductive intention.
“Because I will crown you and worship you as my queen today, if you wish it.”
“If anyone so much as attempts to lay a finger on you, Red,” he rumbled, adjusting the cloak to cover my hair more completely, “then they will find themselves without that finger. And possibly without the arm that finger was attached to.”
“Because,” Carnon said, his voice even lower this time as he leaned his head toward me. “I can think of no place more beautiful or romantic to convince you to fall back into my bed, Elara.”
“I’m sorry, Elara. For the lies. For everything. For having to act the monster to appease my court, and for destroying the chance to build real trust between us. But if you’ll let me, I will gladly grovel in the same manner as tonight for a few hundred years until you have thoroughly accepted my apology.” He
