growth is a choice. It’s never by chance.
It’s easy to blame your childhood, parents, lack of opportunities, or sub-par natural talent as the reason you aren’t where you want to be today. But to choose strong, we must choose the hard right over the easy wrong.
Let’s focus on what our bodies can do, and not on what they look like. Your body is shaped perfectly for you and the journey meant for you. Don’t let anyone say you can’t do what you love because of how you look. This is your life and no one can live it for you. Embrace the one body you have. Strengthen it. Care for it. Appreciate it. Stand in it. Unaltered and fully valid.
What we want and what we need will rarely agree; but maybe that’s one of the secret ingredients to achieving a goal: We embrace everything, the highs and the lows, knowing it will all work out for the good. Courageously standing in every season of life is how we reach the summits of our one, precious life.
Unknown to me at the time, winning Badwater 135 after battling setback after setback was the truest reflection of who I am. I didn’t win because I had a perfectly executed race, and I didn’t win because I was better than anyone else. I won because I chose to keep going despite the setbacks. I believed in myself and released what I couldn’t control; and I kept hope at the forefront of every step.
