forgiving someone means you don’t let them control you any longer. You get to replace all the heavy, negative feelings that weigh you down and focus on your own well-being instead.

No, that is called closure and moving on. It has fuck all to do with forgiving someone. You can absolutely refuse to forgive someone and still move on with your life.

And if I was spending all this money and time to get a license just to impress some imaginary audience, was that a good enough reason to be doing it?

People made mistakes all the time. Including me.

Unless you also told the entire school that a girl you didn't know was sleeping with a teacher, I'm not sure the two compare. Like. You can understand why she did it without thinking it was excusable.
