“What separates monsters from good men is only a matter of perspective. In your eyes, I’m a sick fuck for what I’ve done to you. But I, on the other hand, see you as a parasite.”
I refused to let a whole population of swinging dicks ogle her.
I loathed this secret obsession I’d begun to develop with her.
Just like that, Lilia Vespertine had become more than a student. She was a serious problem.
“Stay out of trouble, Curious Moth,” he said, as he strode for the door. Curious Moth. A nickname. A fitting one, too, given the fact that I had no intentions of avoiding the flame.
“That is the tragedy of women, isn’t it? We deny ourselves beauty for the sake of misleading men.”
“The wealthy possess an insatiable appetite for the rare and priceless. They stare because you’re the only thing worth staring at.”
“My, you are a wicked little moth.”
“Look at you. Such a bold moth. Far bolder than I gave you credit for.”
I’d forgotten the part where I hadn’t yet confirmed whether, or not, he was a psycho killer.
Perhaps I was the psycho.
The girl was a problem. An incredibly beautiful, but annoying, problem.
I’d never wanted anything so badly in my life.
Calling her beautiful was like calling the sun lukewarm. She’d blazed like the hottest part of a flame in that dress. And fuck me, I’d felt the heat.
Something dark and violent, and at the center of it was a troublesome girl, with her ridiculous berry lips that I wanted to bite, who’d somehow corrupted me. A crafty little shit who’d bulldozed right through my defenses.
“You are a curiosity in yourself, Miss Vespertine.”
“May I ask a question?” “That is a phrase that will echo in death,”
“And so the moth befriended the flame.” “Huh,” I said, falling into step after him. “I didn’t think the flame was capable of being friendly.” “You assume I’m the danger to you.”
Be a good little moth, and I’ll fuck you hard.
Please, Professor Bramwell. Fuck me hard.
I’d just
fingered myself to thoughts of my professor. Who also happened to be my boss.
Something about the man crawled beneath my skin, unraveling dark fantasies like a spool of silk ribbon.
“So, names. I think the one in the back with the white spot on its wing should be Achilles, and the one in the front, with the goofy proboscis, should be Patroclus.”
“Deep waters terrify me.” “Or perhaps it’s the sea who fears the depths of you, Miss Vespertine.”
“It’s called manifestation. And it actually works.”
“Don’t ever feel ashamed of being ruthless in the pursuit of what you want, Lilia. The path to success is rarely a virtuous one.”
“The dead themselves are harmless. It’s what they leave behind that inspires fear.”
“You’re a sickness inside of me that begs never to be cured. Infecting me with this unshakable craving for things I shouldn’t want.”
As toxic as it was, I relished this game between us, the push and pull, the stolen touches and delicious tension.
“Tell me, Little Moth. Have I ever eaten your pussy in these fantasies?”
“And because I’m a selfish prick who has to live with the fact that I cannot have you to myself, I’m going to ruin you so that any boy who comes after me will leave you deeply unsatisfied, and you’ll be left fucking your own fingers, desperate to remember
the time you had your professor’s face between your legs.”
“I don’t give a damn about every other girl. There’s only one who crosses my mind a fuck-ton more than she should. So, I’m going to finish you, Lilia. I’m going to give you the release you’ve been craving, and I won’t touch you again. But this pussy belongs to me. You let any other undeserving prick near it, and I will cut out his tongue and send it to you in a specimen jar.”
Tell him, Lilia! Make him hurt, too! But I couldn’t. Because the unsettling truth of it was, it set me alight. I really was a dumb fucking moth.
Eyes locked on his, I reached up the hem of my skirt and pulled down my panties, slipping them over my ankles. I balled them in my palm and stuffed them into the pocket of his slacks, next to the hard length that brushed the edge of my thumb. “Panties are for the modest,” I said, and turned for the door.
She was a sorceress. She had to be. What else could possibly explain the toxic poison running through me right then?
The fact that she was entirely forbidden only made me want her more,
She was the warmth of the sun on a cold and rotting corpse. The first breath after a lifetime of death.
How could I share an entire campus with her, knowing she could fall in love at any moment with some inexperienced cad who wouldn’t have a clue what to do with a girl like her. The very thought sprouted cruel and vile schemes, like keeping her in one of the cells below. Caging her like one of my little moths.
Lilia. Her name was a dirty scalpel plunged deep inside my chest, past crumbling bones and decayed flesh.
