In the Land of Faerie, as mortals feel no sorrow, neither can they feel joy. —Faerie proverb
“You’re the only person I’ve ever loved like this, and I know you’re the only person I ever will. And I’m not myself without you, Emma. Once you dissolve dye in water, you can’t take it back out. It’s like that. I can’t take you out of me. It means cutting out my heart, and I don’t like myself without my heart. I know that now.”
“As long as you exist and I exist, I will love you.”
Kieran leaned an elbow on his knee. “So what do I do, Drusilla?” “Um,” Drusilla said. “Don’t remain silent about what you want, or you may never get it.” “You are very wise,” Kieran said gravely. “Well,” said Dru. “I actually saw that on a mug.” “Mugs in this world are very wise.”
People were made up of all sorts of different bits, Dru thought. Funny bits and romantic bits and selfish bits and brave bits. Sometimes you saw only a few of them. Maybe it was when you saw them all that you realized you knew someone really well.
“Faith isn’t never having any doubts; it’s having what you need to overcome them.”
He smiled down at her. “No,” he said. “We don’t have to lie or pretend now. We don’t have to lie or pretend ever again.”
“My love for yours, my heart for yours, my soul for yours, Alexander. Now and for all time.”
That was my worst point, my darkest point, and you were there, despite everything, with your heart open. You were there to bring me home.”
You’re the reason I wanted to break out of the cage. You made me understand that love creates far more joy than any pain it causes.”
