Killing Our Own Personnel Tyree stated in his affidavit that once the rescue helicopters entered Colombian airspace they and the extracted SAT team became liabilities, and orders were given to three U.S. Army “Cobra” attack helicopters to shoot them down upon their return to Panama. The orders allegedly were not carried out because of the presence of U.S. troops in the area, and that the troops would witness the shoot-down and associated deaths.
