Anthony Gonzalez’s grandparents escaped from Castro’s Cuba in 1959. He kept their photograph on the wall of his office in the Rayburn House Office Building. No one understood the value and fragility of freedom better than he did. While most of our colleagues were working to find an excuse to vote against impeachment, Gonzalez refused to look away from the truth: “I probably could have found a reason to vote no,” he said, “but I would never be able to defend it to my kids in 20 years when they ask me about it.”
