Eugene Peterson writes, “Feelings are great liars. If Christians worshiped only when they felt like it, there would be precious little worship.”4 That doesn’t mean feelings are unimportant. Or that we’re doomed to slog through spiritual practices without inspiration. But it’s the very act of showing up and seeking God that often generates feelings that weren’t present to begin with.
