Going back over what you have already written is easier than coming up with something entirely new.
Start writing whatever words come to you. Allow for the words to be less than perfect. The real act of writing is not about the rough draft (or at least, mostly not about the rough draft). It’s about refining your story through the second and third drafts.
Let me stop you there. First, you have to write the book.
Writers’ Emotional Development Profile What is your writing goal? What stands in the way of you achieving your writing goal? What do you stand to lose if you are not successful? Name some of your flaws as they have to do with your writing. Name some of your strengths. Name some things you hate about writing. Name some things you love about writing. Name some things you fear. Describe a dream or aspiration. Write down a secret no one else knows about you.
Be cautious as you reach the halfway point of your story. You’re about to reach a transition point. At the halfway point you must fully commit to the story.
Writers have a tendency to get stuck in their heads, focus on themselves, and look inward rather than outward. They obsess about the stories they write to the point that they often miss the details of the world around them. Can you remember what you wore yesterday?
