That was how sad my life was: the one person I could lean on in this house wasn’t even a person, just a four-legged creature that loved to have his ears scratched and whose favorite pastime was chasing a ball over and over.

“I’d do it all with you, Noah, you know that…but I won’t do anything until the fear disappears from your eyes.”

I didn’t know what had happened afterward, but I couldn’t get out of my head that image of her touching his body, her mouth on his… He’d freaked out when that guy had kissed me in the club, and I hadn’t even wanted it…and what he’d done was way worse.

A guy kissed her (Noah) without her permission. Nick punches the guy and then yells at Noah. She slaps him. He threatens her. She leaves. Hours later hes making out with another girl in front of Noah. Hypocrite.

I’d let my hatred for my mother get the better of me, and I’d treated all women the same even when there were some who were incredible—in my case, one in particular I had to make mine no matter what.

She bent over to kiss me on the lips, but I pulled away automatically. My lips would only kiss one person from now on, and that person wasn’t Anna.

At that moment, I realized that this woman would be beside me forever. I loved her above all else, and she had rescued me from the black hole my life had been before I’d met her. It had taken us time to understand, but now we were together and would work to make our relationship grow. Our lives hadn’t been easy, and that was why we understood each other so well. At a critical moment, in the eye of the storm, we had each been the other’s lifesaver, and that was not something easy to find.
