His face splits with a heart-stopping smile. “Yeah?” “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but yes.” He whoops, drumming a victory beat on the gate. He wraps his arms around my waist and swings me around. I choke back a scream so I don’t startle the goats, laughing at his antics.
We end up piled onto the plush couches and chairs in the living room. Kit-cat hasn’t left Maya’s lap. Whenever she’s not looking, I take about twenty photos of my two favorite girls cuddling together. My chest expands so much it feels like it might burst open, no longer able to contain my happiness.
I turn her around and lean down, needing to feel my forehead resting against hers.
turn to her. “There’s something else I learned because of my dad.” My heartrate kicks up in anticipation. “I love you.”
His mouth tugs into the crooked grin that’s captured my whole heart. “I’m gonna say it anyway because I want to. I never want you to doubt it or go without hearing that I love you.”
