I stop him when he tries to figure out how to insert a tampon, laughing sleepily at his attempts.
Within minutes of meeting, we’re enjoying ourselves as we dance. Corinne fits right in like she’s always been our friend.
“You don’t have to say anything. I just want you to know that I’m all in with you. This isn’t just for fun while I’m in college. You’re my forever.”
If anything, I have more to fight for to earn my spot on NHL ice. One more important person in my life to take care of.
“There’s something else I learned because of my dad.” My heartrate kicks up in anticipation. “I love you.” It comes out simple and easy. Her lips part. “You—?”
“Doubt it. We’ve had a really shitty season.” He snorts. “It’s fine. Buffalo sent a contract with their official offer. Once I sign it, I can’t play in the NCAA league anyway.” “Oh my god, Ry! You didn’t tell me, dick,” I say in excitement. “Congratulations. Are you going to sign with them?”
“I’m gonna say it anyway because I want to. I never want you to doubt it or go without hearing that I love you.” The warmest glow swells to fill my chest as his words envelop me. “I love you,” I murmur. His blue eyes soften with tender adoration. “Everything will be okay. Goodnight.”
They’re doing a decent job with the secret they’re supposed to keep from me. They haven’t realized I already found out about the surprise party Maya organized to celebrate my number one draft pick and the contract I signed with the Bruins. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy as fuck about achieving my dreams. I still can’t believe I’ll step on the ice at TD Garden wearing the jersey of mine and my dad’s favorite team. Fucking surreal.
I’m going to score a hat trick for you. Maya: This is the NHL, you can’t keep dedicating your goals to me!
