We might describe the Stoics as pro-active fatalists. They believed that the best way to deal with set-backs and suffering is to prepare for them through practice and contemplation. By doing so, we can keep anything that happens in perspective. As Ferris puts it: “it’s about not dwelling on pain and not clinging to ephemeral happiness.”
