All the hopeless, chaotic thoughts came to a jarring halt at the sound of him laughing. At the deep rumble I could feel against my chest. “Kill you?”
“No, little lamb. I’m not going to kill you,” he said, his eyes roaming my face in the dark, making me feel his intentions like a fire held too close to flesh. “I’m going to keep you.”
When I was finished with her, I’d hand her the key to her freedom and I wanted her to drop it at my feet. I wanted her to stay.
“You’re the worst idea I’ve ever had.” He shook his head. “Resorting to dangerous games to get my attention...”
“Yes, little lamb, I’ll order your filthy books.”
Why did people stop building houses like this? I felt like a time traveler in this place, a character out of a Gabaldon novel.
Eventually she would see, all nightmares ended with bright mornings, and they faded just as quickly.
“I’m saying, Emily Snow, that I love you.”
