She wanted a deep and loving relationship. She wanted forever. A forever with passion.
Still believing in fairytales and happily-ever-afters, Avery? Maybe you spent too long with your nose stuck in a book.
One cover had a clawed gray wing draped in red fabric with rhapsodic written across it. The text crawling down the cover read, make a deal if you dare.
Only one thing was clear—the beast dwelling inside Fyran had chosen Avery as its own, and it wasn’t going to be denied.
“Oh, my gosh. Hi! I…can’t believe you’re here.” The smile he offered her—little more than one corner of his mouth slanting up—was positively rakish. “You can touch me if you need to be sure.” She was tempted. Oh, how she was tempted.
Oh, God, now he’s going to ask me what I write, and I’m going to have to explain to him that romance books aren’t porn right here in the middle of this café…
What the heck was that? Had he just used his bedroom voice on her? That had definitely been a fuck-me voice.
“Unfortunately”—Hunter returned his phone to his pocket, flatted his hands on the table, and stood up—“I have a few other things to take care of today. Thanks for the hot chocolate and the…taste.” His gaze dipped to her lips. “Looking forward to the next one.”
He’d look pretty damned good with fangs. All the better to eat me with.
Eat me. Drink me.
“You touch her again,” Hunter said in a low, gravelly voice that was barely more than a growl, “and I’ll tear off your fucking hand.”
Hunter released a slow, heavy breath and broke the kiss, pulling back just enough to meet Avery’s gaze as she opened her eyes. “Gets better every time,”
“There are children here,” a man said from nearby in the sort of exasperated, patronizing tone Avery had heard so much in her youth. The muscles of Hunter’s jaw ticked. He swung his head aside to look at the man and growled, “How the fuck you think they got here?”
“You’re mine, vaerina. I was a fool to think I could live without you.”
“We’ll, uh, come back to that subject another time.” “Oh, we’ll be coming. A lot.” Heat shot through her body, making her skin flush. “Oh, my God. Can we just…get my things? You can come with me—” His grinned widened, turning absolutely wicked.
“You spanked me,” she said, shocked. His big hand remained on her ass, rubbing to soothe away the lingering sting as he moved down the stairs. “You can have more after you eat.”
“You’re mine, vaerina. And I am yours. All that I am, for better or worse…I belong to you.”
“Then and now, all I wanted to do was take away your pain.” His lips spread in a wide grin. “Well, that and rut you.” “Fyran!” Avery glanced around, her cheeks darkening.
“So now I know how to punish you. The cold shoulder and silent treatment.” Fyran’s eyebrows drooped, and he narrowed his eyes. “I’m familiar with the silent treatment, but what is this cold shoulder nonsense?” Avery smirked and lifted a single shoulder in a shrug as she turned away from him without answering. “Female, I already don’t like this. Stop. Please?” She giggled
“Is my mate lying to me?” She took a bite of her sandwich, looked away, and gave him a hesitant, muffled, “No.” Fyran’s grin tilted to one side as he selected another chip. “Good. I’m sure she wouldn’t want to face the consequences, would she?” Her brows rose as her eyes met his. She swallowed. “I lied. It was a total lie. I did it on purpose. When do I get my punishment?”
