I swear to God, Mia di Angelo is wearing those jeans to fucking torture me.
Two months ago, she smiled at me for the first time. Looked at Penny and my brother, Cooper, then back at me and smiled, and I swear the universe tilted on its axis for half a second. Couldn’t breathe, couldn’t move, couldn’t do a fucking thing but look at that smile and melt.
Sebastian Miller-Callahan. Disgustingly nice. Disgustingly good at making me come. Disgustingly good at baseball, too, and that’s something that should have tipped me off—it’s never easy with athletes.
“I can take care of myself.” “I didn’t say you couldn’t.” He stands, walking over to me, and presses me against the door. I swallow, gazing into those gorgeous green eyes that devour me whenever we’re in a room together. It’s a secret, our thing, but shit like defending me in a public
fight threatens to let that escape. I ought to tell him to go home, and to stop texting. “Just that I’d never let you fight alone.”
I’ve never needed it, but some part of me must want it, because I take him to my bedroom, shut the door, and tell him to make me scream.
“Don’t,” I snap. “Don’t call her crazy just because she broke up with me. Don’t call anyone crazy, it’s fucking rude.”
Even as wet as a sewer rat, Mia di Angelo is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.
She reminds me of Tangerine when Cooper gives her a bath, petulant and displeased with the entire situation, but at least she’s physically okay.
I’m her friend, and friends help each other. Even if the friend in question is prickly as a cactus and hasn’t spoken to you in over a month.
“It’s part of you. Part of what makes you Mia. I like you, Mia. Every part.”
I would rather walk barefoot over broken glass than deal with the temptation when I can’t fucking have him and don’t deserve him in the first place.
“Maybe I just liked him.” He laughs shortly. “I know what you like, sweetheart, and that’s not it.”
“Oh my God.” “What?” “Oh, no. Boo. I thought I saw Alexander Skarsgård, but it was just another hot blond guy.” She clears her throat. “You know, I think there’s one in Moorbridge, too. He plays baseball.”
“I know, I know. It’s just, you don’t watch your parents die in front of you and not be a little fucked up, right? I don’t know for certain, because if he’s talking to anyone, it’s Cooper, but I think he has nightmares. He’s a good guy, but that’s because he tries so hard to be positive.”
“I distinctly remember, for example, you telling me that if I broke the zipper while undressing you, you wouldn’t let me eat you out. I took them off like they were made of glass.”
“Don’t tell me what I deserve.” He takes a step closer. I hold the bag to my chest like a shield. “I know what I deserve, which is what I want. And what I want is for you to be in my life, whatever
that looks like. Don’t you want me in your life too?”
“Show me your favorite setting,” he says. He reaches down, stroking his cock. I stare unabashedly; he’s fully hard, thick and no doubt aching like I am. “Show me, so I know how to take care of you, angel.”
“Yeah. Messed up my finger, but it’s not too bad.” “Which one?” “Just the pinky.” “At least it’s not one of the important ones,” she says, a teasing note in her voice. I grin, even though she can’t see it. “You’re a dirty girl sometimes, di Angelo.”
“I didn’t want to then, and I sure as hell don’t want to now. I want you, Mia. Not just to mess around with, or to be your friend. I want everything we can give each other because I’m falling for you too.”
“You deserved more than she was giving.”
“How did you know which lab to go to?”
“I just picked the nerdiest one.” She hugs me.
“Mia, why are you holding on like we’re about to go into a haunted house?”
“Which is why we kept the training wheels on for you, di Angelo. Cooper wanted to throw you into mini golf right away, but I didn’t want to scare you off. Us Callahans don’t fuck around where mini golf is concerned.”

“You’ll always be an angel to me. You might try to be a devil to everyone else, but you’re my angel.”
“You’re okay, right? That wasn’t too much?”

Angel— Aren’t you glad we became friends? Love, S P.S. Thank you.
He blows me a kiss as he jogs backwards.
“Gonna have to keep from staring at you in between pitches, Mia Angel!”
