“Watch your mouth when you speak about my family. Rosemary has done no such thing and nor is William Blackwell here in this house. Were I you, I would be gathering every ounce of my dignity to give my daughter the best opportunity of finding a man half as decent as Mr. Blackwell. Now, again, I say to you, leave.”
“Beauty is pain, my darling daughter. If you want to win Mr. Blackwell's heart, you must not breathe,”
“You do beg so pretty,”
“You, my darling, are the gift I have been waiting for my entire lifetime.”
“Good girl.”
“Scandalous. I wonder if they’ll be able to tell I’ve just thoroughly fucked you with my mouth.”
“This way I live, it is not a choice, but I make the best of it. Were people to know what I did... were they to find out what I am or that there are others like me, it would be the end of my kind. I detest it, but I must lie; I must cover up things like what's upstairs, so no one need know or trouble their heads.”

As I stepped into the warm water of the bath, I could almost hear his voice. His dark chuckles filled my ears, his cool fingers traced over my skin. The impression of his lips on mine, unyielding in their passion, burned with the ghost of his touch. The coil tightened in my chest, wound so brutally it could only snap. I cried out, slamming my fists into the water, splashing it about the room.
