Aurum wrinkled his nose. "Oh, good. My choices are brother-ass or generic wolf-ass."
"I do not want to get laid. I want my fated mate, the love of my life. And he's certainly not going to appear on a Drake-damned game show."
"Oh, I'm sorry," I said sarcastically. "I didn't know my conversation was an open forum."
None of them stood out to me—except one. The tiger. My breath caught in my throat when I saw him in the flesh. There he was, standing fifteen feet away. Broad-shouldered, powerful, stoic. He looked bigger in person, and he had a presence that the others lacked, a magnetic force. Try as I might, I couldn't look away from him. And then he looked back. Ferocious amber eyes locked on mine. In the golden light of the sunset, they looked like orbs of fire, hot and burning. He didn't blink. He stared—almost glared—like he had a bone to pick with me.
I fought off the urge to shift into my dragon form and thwack them away with my tail, but that was probably an OSHA violation.
I couldn't help but stare at him. He enthralled me. He was something special. And what did I get from staring at Taylor? A furious glare back from the sassy tiger.
"Sorry, I don't go around remembering every dragon's favorite soft drink." A flicker of something—jealousy?—flashed across Crimson's eyes. "You know other dragons?" he asked. "No. You're the first I've met." That seemed to calm him down. "Ah."
"Besides, I don't need magic to win you over, Taylor."
Taylor. I needed him.
It was far too late to deny it—I was smitten with this big kitten.
I didn't want any of these omegas to go on a date with him. He was mine.
Love… Yes, I was certain about the feeling now. It couldn't be anything else.
My dragon soul stirred, pacing restlessly. It wanted to burst free and claim what was mine. And Taylor was mine.
"Sure. But trust me, you'll get bored if you let me blather on." A good-natured possessive growl reverberated in my throat. "Never."
Taylor was mine. Nobody else's. The thought of some other alpha's hands on him infuriated me. I wouldn't feel fully satisfied until I'd claimed him, proving my love for him.
"Because the thought of you leaving nearly made me shift and destroy this whole building," he muttered.
"He knows I'm crazy for you, so he goaded me on purpose by implying we weren't fated mates." Butterflies fluttered in my chest. "You're crazy for me?" "Is that not obvious?"
"You're so—" Crimson gently bit my lower lip. "Fucking irresistible."
"I forgot you've never been with a dragon," he admitted with a grin. "Which is good. Because I would've torn him limb from limb." "Thank you for mauling my hypothetical dragon ex."
"When you belong to an alpha dragon, you are their world," Crimson said. There was no hint of exaggeration in his tone. "That dragon will do anything for you. They would set their precious hoard on fire if you asked it."
"I want you to be my omega. My mate. I want to worship you daily. I want to fulfill your every whim, every desire."
"It's you. Only you. And if I can't have you, I want nobody else. I want to breed you, Taylor. I'm going to fill you to the brim. Impregnate you."
"You're gorgeous, Taylor," he said, drawing up. "Every inch of you."
"I love you," he murmured. "Only you. Don't ever forget that." A smirk curved his lips. "And if you do, let me know so I can remind you. Like this."
“Aww, look at you. Underneath that prickly exterior, you’re a big softie, aren’t you?” I sniffled loudly. “I’m going to claw your face off.” Crimson beamed like I’d complimented him.
“I didn’t choose you, Taylor. Fate chose us. If you weren’t here, I would still be alone. I’d go the rest of my life without a mate or an egg.” I gave him a kiss on the tip of his tiger nose. “It’s you, or nobody. That’s all there is to it, my love.”
