“I can’t lose her again,” I say with a sob. “I can’t.”
“I’ve got you, baby,” I cry with her. “I’ve got you.”
“Hey,” he says softly as he pours the warm water over my shoulders. “It’s okay. You’re safe, and I’m never going to let her hurt you again.”
“I love you,” he breathes. “I love you so much.”
“You are everything to me,” he says, kissing his way down my neck. “There isn’t a thing about you that I don’t love.”
“There is no me without you, Laiken. I may not be sure of a lot, but I’m sure of that.”
“Next time I tell you two I don’t like someone and you don’t believe me, I’m going to remind ya’ll of this,”
“Baby,” I say softly. “I know you’re scared, but you have to know that I’m not going to let anything happen to you. I’ve got you. Okay? But we have to end this once and for all.”
“It’s all over, baby. Except us. You’re stuck with me for the rest of our lives.”
Looking down at the girl who surprised me at every turn, I can’t believe there was a time I wanted to deny myself this. But she fucked all my rules then the same way she does now. And I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. I kiss her forehead before saying the words that aren’t nearly enough, but they’re the only thing that comes close. “I more than love you.”
Laiken’s smile stretches from ear to ear as she giggles. “You’re such a caveman you have to marry me twice, huh?” I huff out a laugh as I stand, grabbing the back of her neck. “You know it, baby.”
“Every time I think I can’t love you any more than I already do…”
“You literally saw me an hour ago,” she teases. Turning toward her, I give her an incredulous look. “Woman, I miss you when you walk away for five minutes. Don’t act like this is news to you.”
“I think, deep down, I always knew you’d end up back in my arms.”
