Laiken stares at the spot where Monty died, but when I press a kiss to her hair, she snaps out of it. “Are you okay?” I check. She looks up at me with fear in her eyes. “I just want this to be over.” “You and me both, baby. So, let’s go put an end to this.”
“How fashionably early of you. Welcome to the party.”
It was Monty.
“He didn’t…” I ask, not even able to say the words. She shakes her head, gripping at me tightly. “No.”
“For the record, this time I killed him intentionally, and I won’t fucking apologize for it.” She huffs out a laugh, looking at me in disbelief. “I won’t ask you to.”
“What are we doing here, H?” she asks. My head turns as I look around, surprisingly feeling a little nervous. “This place was so special to us, and it was just one of the many things that were stolen from us. But I plan on changing that. They don’t get to take away this place or the incredible memories we have here. So, I’m taking it back.”
“It has to be soon because I want your mom to be there.”
I will spend the rest of my life being incomprehensibly in love with her. And if there’s a life after this one, I’ll go to the ends of the earth to find her again, because her soul and mine are two halves of a whole. There’s no me without her.
