I seriously considered shouting boo! at him and shaving a few years off of his life from sheer panic.

When I was naked in the darkness, he came around behind me and unbraided my hair, tenderly combing it with his fingers to loosen the strands.

“I was going to let it go,” he gritted out after a moment. “I didn’t want to die angry at you. But if you’re so convinced I’ll live, then I’m gonna go ahead and be mad. At both of you, I guess.”
