“You can be upset and angry all you want, but don’t bring another man in my presence again.” “Or what?” “I’ll end them. Every last fucking one of them.” My lips part. “You…you wouldn’t.” “Try. Me.” His breath tickles my skin and he darts his tongue out to lick the shell of my ear before he murmurs in dark, hot words, “I dare you to fucking try me, Princess.”
“And when I do, you’ll come for me, screaming my name until you forget all other fucking names. You’ll be my good little princess, won’t you?”
“Why do you like pushing me, Levi?” I crane my head to the side, silently giving him better access to my neck. “Why do you like playing with me until I don’t know whether or not this is real?” “Because I don’t do things halfway. I take everything, Princess.” “Everything?” “Your tears. Your laughs. Your pain. Your joy.” He drags his tongue along my lower lip, then bites it. “Everything you have to offer is mine to own.”
She only belongs to me now and no one will be able to take her away. Ever.
I might not know how the fuck Astrid fits in the big picture, but I know that she’s mine. I know that I’ll feed off everything she offers like the parasite she paints me as.
“Live in the moment.”
“You’ll ruin me.”
“I promise you’ll love every second of it.”
“Then why did you run?” Because maybe I like the feeling of being chased. Maybe I like walking on the thin line between sanity and insanity with him. I love the way my heart pounds as if I’m about to have a heart attack. He brings me to the edge and I love the view. “It’s a secret.” I
“Oh, God.” “Not quite.”
Instead, he clutches my jaw, squeezing it between his fingers. His lips hover inches away from mine as he breathes nicotine down my throat. Holy shit. That’s hot. And burning. I mean, the nicotine burns at the back of my throat. I cough, but he swallows the sound with a hard kiss. I feel like that helpless cigarette in his mouth. Tugged by his teeth and devoured by his lips. But he tastes like that cigarette. He tastes like me. If this is the last smoke he’ll have, then I’ll let him burn me.
Our calm is only a delusion to the storm.
It’s like an alien has sucked his soul and left this person behind. He smirks in that cruel, sadistic way. Then his next words undo me. “We were never something to be over.”
He dared to touch her. He put his fucking hands on her. The corner of his lips curls in a smirk. “It didn’t fail, after all.”
Careful, King, your own queen will bring you to your knees.”
“In exchange, I’ll have a go at Ice Princess.” His smirk falls, and although it’s not slow, for someone with Aiden’s conniving mind, it’s noticeable. “I heard she can be fun and not so icy underneath that exterior.” His right eye twitches. Checkmate.
It’s crazy. It’s reckless. But it’s ours. Levi and I haven’t started as a fairytale, and I know it won’t be a fairytale ending, but I still crave what we have.
How can I feel this strongly for a monster?
“I see you, but I don’t touch you. I hear you, but I can’t speak to you. You’ve been driving me fucking crazy.” “Good.” I lean into his hand, rocking against his thigh. “Because you’ve made me crazy for a while now.”
“Tell me you’re mine.”
“I’m yours.” “I don’t care what fucking happens. You’re not leaving anymore.”
This feeling, this belonging. I thought I’d imagined it the other time, but it’s real. Something primal goes through me whenever we’re joined like this. He’s mine, too. His harsh breathing. His relentless strokes. His head-turning scent. All of him. He belongs to me.
“Tell me you’re mine, Princess. Tell me you won’t let anyone else touch you the way I do. Tell me you won’t change or leave me.”
“Don’t lie. If you make a promise, fucking keep it.” “I’m yours, Levi,” I whisper, meeting his gaze. And I mean it. I’ve been his for longer than I’d like to admit. “Promise,” he growls. “I promise.”
If you’re a mistake, I’ll still make it every fucking time.
“Are you going to ask for other people? Because that’s a resounding fucking no.” “Aw, man. There goes my chance to have an orgy with Xander, Ronan, and Cole.” His eyes darken as he grips my hip tighter until it’s almost painful. “You want to have an orgy with those three fuckers?”
“That sounds awfully like you’re my sugar daddy.” “I’ll be your anything as long as you’re mine.”
Ronan is the type who makes everything about sex — like Dan. However, from the time I’ve spent with them, I’ve learned that he’s the one with the most heart out of the four horsemen. Xander is too slippery. Cole’s too silent. Aiden is too… Well, nothing. I can’t grasp his real character, no matter how much I study him.
Astrid didn’t only engrave herself in my soul, she’s also become an inseparable part of my core. And no fucking one can take that away from me. Not even her.
“Astrid…” he trails off as if he can’t find the words. “I love you. I’m fucking crazy about you, Princess.” Tears surge into my eyes, but I push them back. Be strong. You have to be strong. “And I love you, Levi,” I murmur the words as if I’m afraid of them. I’m afraid that now that they’re out there, I’ve doomed myself to a harder fall. He smiles as his lips capture mine. It’s impossible to resist him. I can’t. I’m crashing and burning, but I still enjoy every hit. Every lash. Every spark.
I broke his wings, but I’m the one who’s bleeding.
The only thing that remains is the girl walking across the pitch. She’s wearing my T-shirt with the number ten on it. Her hair falls like a fucking halo around her face. Air rushes back to my lungs, and it hurts. Feeling so much life after suffocating for two weeks fucking hurts. I’ll make sure it never hurts again. For the both of us.
Astrid once told me I was a dark night. It’s on dark nights that stars like her shine the brightest.
“Tell me you couldn’t sleep either. Tell me I’ve been driving you as fucking crazy as you’ve been driving me.” I nod, fighting the pressure building in my throat. “I know there’s a dark past between us, but I’m choosing to be selfish. I’m choosing the future, Levi.” “Thank fuck, because I’m never giving up on you, Princess.” I release a long breath. “I thought you already had.” “Nah. I have to live up to my devil reputation.”
Scratch that. I can breathe. I breathe him. His embrace. His warmth. The future I want with him.
Levi and I have been something special since the day I stumbled into that private room, drugged, and he kicked me out just so he’d save me later. We’ve been something special since he made me his target and I fought back. The past won’t define our lives. The future will.
The only difference is that I love it. No, I crave it. Sometimes, I feel like his madness mirrors mine.
He might rock my world, but he’s also the only one who’s able to balance it. He’s my anchor and my peace. He has some possessive and controlling issues, but that’s part of who Levi King is.
“You gave my life meaning and I want to spend every single moment of it with you.” He looks up at me with his wet blond hair sticking to his temples and his pale blue eyes shining with intensity. “Would you marry me, Princess?” “Yes! A million times yes, Levi!”
Everything about Aiden King is black. Black mind. Black heart. Black soul.
Being hated by Aiden King is dangerous. But being wanted by him is lethal.
