The surgent Christian faith was at great pains to distinguish itself to potential converts—to explain how a religion based on the worship of the Jewish son of the Jewish God was not merely some substrain of Judaism. The simplest and most elegant way to illustrate the differences, it turned out, was to kill as many Jews as possible for the next fifteen hundred years.
