Many adults who are diagnosed in their mature years say that the first time they felt different to others was when they started school. They describe being able to understand and relate to family members, including playing socially with brothers and sisters, but when they were expected to play with their peers at school and relate to a teacher, they recognized themselves as being very different from children their age.
