Affective prosody functions as a means of communicating feelings and attitudes. For example, the simple request ‘Come here’ could be said with a tone of voice that would indicate the person has found something interesting and is happy; is anxious and needs reassurance; or is perhaps angry and about to administer an expected consequence (Pyles 2002).
