Intelligence is not only the ability to reason; it is also the ability to find relevant material in memory and to deploy attention when needed.
This reminds me of Sherlock Holmes and how he reasoned based solely on what he observes and retrieves from memory. I think a lot of the time, I feel overconfident and underestimate the importance of patterns and facts, believing that they are irrelevant.
However, this is contradicting to the black swan story, which is about how significant events cant be predicted. I guess I must read on to see how they work together.
priming students with the idea of wealth reduces the pleasure their face expresses as they eat a bar of chocolate!
It does not make sense to evaluate an entire life by its last moments, or to give no weight to duration in deciding which life is more desirable.
