The only problem? Real guys weren’t anything like book boyfriends.
Indy flushed bright hot. “Quit staring,” she whispered, even as she hoped he wouldn’t. Ethan only smiled wider. “I’m admiring you. Does it make you uncomfortable?” If only.
When she had calmed down, taking several deep breaths and wiping her eyes, he was watching her, shaking his head. “Nick really didn’t do you justice when we were kids. Not that I’m surprised. He’s never appreciated anything he had. But I really wish I’d met you.” “He talked about me? What did he tell you?” “Not enough.”
“Don’t be. I’ve been better since she left.” Beside her, he turned so his chest pressed against her shoulder. “And recently, I’ve realized there are people out there who could make me happier than I ever thought I could be.”
“You don’t need saving, Indy.” The seriousness behind his words was overwhelming. “But I’ll help. Anywhere, anytime.” “Like my sidekick.” “Like a man who’d do anything for you.”
Ethan: You made a fan today. One of my kids asked if the girl I was eating lunch with was my girlfriend, because if not, he wanted to marry her. Indy: What did you tell him?
Ethan: To get in line.
(7:38am) Ethan: Would pancakes make it up to you? I know a place, and I owe you for lunch. Indy: No you don’t. Indy: And what kind of person says no to pancakes? I’ll meet you there.
Ethan: I knew you were perfect.
“First thing you have to know about me, Indy, is that I reciprocate with enthusiasm.”
“How are you real?” he asked.
“I don’t know how any man has ever looked at you and not made you theirs, but I’m not about to make that mistake. Nick might be clueless, but I’m not.”
“I don’t need anything from you except your company, Snoopy. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing; I like being around you. So stop worrying that that isn’t enough, because it is.”
He scooted closer on the couch cushion. “You have to know that whatever you’re thinking right now, I’d do it.” “I could be thinking anything.” She peered up at him, pressing her lips together. “That’s what I’m counting on.”
“I mean it, Ethan. You should listen to your sister and start taking what you want more.” “All right, where do you want to be taken?” His bed sounded great. “You’re being deliberately obtuse.” “You want me to put myself first? Then I’m calling your bluff, Indy. Because the only thing I want right now is you.”
“I’ve wanted this for a long time, Indy, and I won’t be rushed.”
