“Fate doesn’t act alone. She’ll show you the path, but you must walk it yourself.”
What did she know about love that wasn’t pure imagination? Nothing, that’s what.
“Lori said to use my love life as inspiration. And we both know my romantic history could only inspire a horror story. People will think I’m a fraud.”
Why was Fate taking so long? A little haste would be appreciated. Indy’s thirtieth birthday had come and gone already.
Ethan made her want to follow.
“Hold on, Snoopy. I like to go hard.” One thing was certain: If the bike didn’t kill her, Ethan definitely would.
“Then you better get used to it, because you’re beautiful when you’re passionate.” He really needed to stop saying things like that, or she’d forget who she was chasing.
“Oh, you’re that Indy.” Jenni, with her flaming red pixie cut and turquoise blouse, beamed across the desk. “Ethan can’t stop talking about you.” Indy swallowed around nothing. “Oh?”
“Summer’s been on my case about it since I mentioned you were an author —” “You talk to your sister about me?”
letting anger direct you only means walking twice as far to get where you want to go.”
“Thank you for coming to my rescue today. You’re my hero.” “It’s just lunch.” “You saved me from starving.” “Does that mean you’ll save me next time?” “You don’t need saving, Indy.” The seriousness behind his words was overwhelming. “But I’ll help. Anywhere, anytime.” “Like my sidekick.” “Like a man who’d do anything for you.”
Ethan: You made a fan today. One of my kids asked if the girl I was eating lunch with was my girlfriend, because if not, he wanted to marry her. Indy: What did you tell him? Ethan: To get in line.
“First thing you have to know about me, Indy, is that I reciprocate with enthusiasm.” Jesus Christ, he should come with a Not Safe for Work warning. There was no way she would make it through brunch without catching on fire.
When she dated, she jumped in with both feet, never wanting to regret holding back but second-guessing every overly attached message, every exclamation mark, every smiley face.
“I don’t need anything from you except your company, Snoopy. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing; I like being around you. So stop worrying that that isn’t enough, because it is.”
Ethan. You should listen to your sister and start taking what you want more.” “All right, where do you want to be taken?” His bed sounded great. “You’re being deliberately obtuse.” “You want me to put myself first? Then I’m calling your bluff, Indy. Because the only thing I want right now is you.”
Don’t ever think you have to hide yourself from me.”
Because this is me, choosing to fall in love with you.
“I had convinced myself that magic didn’t exist, and then this gorgeous woman came along, talking about fate and soulmates, and she was everything I ever wanted. And do you know what? It made me want to believe.”
Ethan was who she wanted, and she would storm every castle and undo the very rules of the universe to be with him. Fate be damned.
“Ethan?” He blinked quickly, and when his gaze lifted, his eyes were glassy, the expression tugging at her heart. “This was my mother’s. It went missing years ago… I always thought I’d lost it.” He swallowed thickly, rubbed at his jaw. “I can’t believe it.”
You were meant for me.”
