To my shock, he stretches out to lie down in the grass next to me. Arianna wastes no time adorning him with his own tiny daisy crown. Killian grumbles a complaint but doesn’t stop her from dressing him in flowers.
“Now we match,” I whisper to him. “If anyone sees me in this shit, my reputation is ruined.” “You’re the one that laid down. Suck it up.”
“Quality annoying asshole fertiliser, sure.”
He can be a moody bastard, even around us.
Christ on a cracker, he could win awards for awkwardness.
My twin is a social pariah and certified textbook introvert.
“Butterflies don’t belong locked up inside.”
worth much out there in the real world, but we can throw a mean punch. Whatever’s chasing you
won’t find you here. We won’t allow it.”
“You belong to the valley now. We protect what’s ours. Better get used to this possessive fucker following you around with his gun from now on.”
“It’s been a while since I had a good hunt.”
“There are no men in my life to hunt down,”
“Because I don’t trust the way you’re making me feel,”
And that right there is exactly what’s so infuriating about this man. He’s riddled with contradictions—caring and kind, hateful and possessive. Cold in one instant and fuelled by the fires of passion in the next. His entire presence is dizzying.
“Please… don’t touch me like that again.”
Keeping busy with my hands is the only thing that allows me to keep the darkness in my mind at bay. I’m itching to escape. I’ll drown if I don’t run.
My old therapist said it does more harm than good to isolate myself, but I told him to go fuck himself and never went back.
I know exactly how awful that invisible prison is.
“Some people don’t want to be found in the first place.”
“Trust me, no one out there wants to be around someone like me.”
I take a deep inhale, smiling to myself. Somewhere inside of me, a switch is flipped. She smells like home.
My lips brush against hers in the briefest, most hesitant kiss. Common sense has packed up, cleaned house and moved the hell out of my brain.
“I can’t be your friend, Willow. I’m not capable of it.”
“If you wanted me to take my clothes off sooner, you only had to ask,”
“I’ve got nothing to hide from you.”
“Kissing is allowed. In fact, if you want to kiss me, I would highly encourage it.”
“Tell me what you really want, Willow.”
“Perhaps you want me to kiss that gorgeous mouth of yours.”
“Perhaps you want me to trace every single inch of your body with my tongue, or for me to taste how wet your pussy is in this moment.” “Zach,” I gasp, embarrassed. “What?” he counters. “Don’t deny it. I can see your legs pressing
together. Does it hurt, beautiful girl? Is your cunt soaking wet and begging for me to touch it?”
“Then you have to communicate. If you want me to touch you, I need to know. I won’t lay a finger on you without your consent.”
“Please kiss me. Touch me. Make me feel whole again.” “There’s a good girl. That’s what I wanted to hear.”
“I want to bury my face between your thighs,”
“And I want you to come all over my mouth so I can taste how sweet you are. Reckon you can do that, babe?”
“Such a perfect angel,”
“You’re dripping already and I haven’t even touched you.”
“Well, that simply won’t do. I’m dying to watch you fall apart with my tongue buried inside you. Come and ride my face.”
“You taste like fucking heaven.”
“More, babe. I want you to fuck yourself against my face. You can do it.”
“I’m not your damn therapist. You want a wet blanket to cry on, then you’re looking at the wrong man. Need me to shoot a motherfucker, or skin a dead deer, I’m all over it.”
“What if I said that I’ve wanted to kiss you since the moment I laid eyes on you? That every single time we speak, all I can think about is dragging you to my bed and making you scream out my name for the whole valley to hear?”
“I’ve wanted to touch you so fucking badly for weeks now,”
“But once I do, I know that I won’t be able to stop. You should leave.”
“You’re strong enough to drag yourself up that mountain and nearly die in the process to give your daughter the chance of a better life. I’m in awe of you.”
Let me hold you. When you wake up screaming, I’ll be there. I’ll fight your demons for as long as you need me to.” “Do you promise?” Willow whimpers. “I swear on my fucking life. No one will ever hurt you again.”
“Help me to forget what he did to me. I need you to replace all that pain with new memories. Good ones.”
“I am going to break that bastard’s fucking skull. I don’t even need to know what he did to you. He’s already signed his death warrant.”
“Keep your eyes on me at all times. You’re not allowed to think about anything else. Am I clear?”
“I can smell how wet you are. Is that all for me?”
“Please. All my memories are of pain and fear. I want to remember this moment with you instead.”
