We could leave sin alone if it ever left us alone, but sin is never more active than when it appears to be quiet. Its influence is often strongest when it's not obvious, so our efforts against sin should be vigorous at all times and in every situation, even when we least suspect its presence. Sin doesn't just linger within us, but the "law in my members [is] warring against the law of my mind" (Romans 7:23), and "the spirit that lives in us desires to envy" (James 4:5).
