“So, you’re falling in love with me, huh?” I smirk, still in disbelief that he spoke those words. His expression turns skeptical as he hums. “I mean, you’re all right.”
“I love you, Laiken. I am so massively in love with you, and I’m sorry that I didn’t realize it sooner.”
“Because Cam is right downstairs,” he says. “And you tend to lack volume control. I don’t regret telling him about us, but I’m also not trying to rub it in his face, either.”
“Tell me again,” I say softly. He smirks. “I think I can show you better.”
“I need you.” My words come out like a desperate plea. Hayes deepens the kiss, only stopping for a second to respond. “You have me, baby. You always have me.”
“Fuck me,” I breathe. “I want you to fuck me.” He slows down as he leans forward and kisses me. “Not tonight, baby. Tonight, I want to love you.”
All the pain and all the heartbreak—it was worth it because it got us here, where he’s loving me the best way he knows how.
I chose the wrong road and lost the one girl who means more to me than anyone. So, I turned the fuck around and chose again.
And while she glared at me like she wanted to set me on fire and watch me burn, all I wanted was to see her smile. She’s always had such a pretty smile.
“My God! Stop acting like you haven’t tasted each other’s cum before!”
He turns to his mom. “Do you see the abuse I deal with?”
So, Laiken…” He pauses just to drive me insane. “Will you officially be mine? My out-in-the-open, hold-your-hand-no-matter-who-can-see girlfriend?”
If there’s ever a time when this girl is all I have, I’ll be okay, because she’s all I will ever need.
“No offense, but there is no grief. I refuse to miss someone who never missed me enough to put down the fucking bottle.”
“Because you don’t hate him anymore.” The way he says it is like it’s the most obvious thing in the world to everyone but me. “You did. I know you did. And I’m sure there are parts of you that still do. But the drunk that you hated died, and all that’s left is what you choose to remember. The alcoholic is the one who walked out on you, but the dad that you still have some memories of, he died, too. It doesn’t make you less of a person for feeling the pain of that.”
I may not know where my future is going, but I have a feeling it’s going to be great.
He paid off my mother’s mortgage, making sure we kept a roof over our heads. And he did so while asking for nothing in return. Because of that, the man sitting in front of me will always have the utmost respect from me.
“Don’t let him hurt me.”
“You’re going to jump his bones tonight, aren’t you?” “Abso-fucking-lutely.”
There’s something different about the way he embraces her. He’s speaking softly, straight into her ear. I can’t hear what he’s saying, but I see the way she nods against him. When he finally pulls away, he looks her in the eyes. “I mean it,” he says. An involuntary smile forces its way through. “I know.”
HAVE YOU EVER STEPPED back and just looked at your man, thinking I am so goddamn lucky?
“That means I get to watch you later,” he murmurs, just before he grabs my chin and kisses me—immediately licking into my mouth.
“You listened,” I breathe. He moves to stand in front of me, sliding his hand to the back of my neck and rubbing behind my ear. “I hang on every single word you say.”
“We’re not hiding here, baby. There’s no one else in this place. It’s just us. And I want to hear you scream.”
He lets out a mix between a hum and a moan. “Good girl. Come here.”
One day, I might even have him record it so I can see what it looks like too from that angle.
“H,” I pant. “There’s no blinds. Someone could see us.” But no part of him seems to care as he fucks into me. “Let them,” he growls. “Let them watch how I make your whole body tense up as you scream my name for the whole world to hear. I want everyone to know just who you belong to.”
The fact that they won’t have a man in the house anymore sits in the back of my mind, but I know they’ll be fine. The two of them scare the ever living shit out of me. If anyone decides to break in, that’s between them and God.
But none of their opinions matter as Laiken looks up at me and my eyes meet hers—because she’s the best thing to ever happen to me. And I will spend the rest of my life being hopelessly in love with her.
She bites her lip, but her grin widens anyway. “And you tried to say we aren’t meant to be.” “Biggest regret of my life,” I reply honestly. “You are the only one I’m ever meant to be with.”
where Monty has strolled in and is in the middle of a bro-shake with Owen, like they’ve been friends for years. I had no idea they even knew each other. And the way Monty quickly excuses himself when he sees me watching, I don’t think I was meant to know.
Funny, throughout all the time Monty was helping us with Cam’s case, he never once mentioned that he even knew Isaac—let alone used to be friends with him. And something tells me it’s not because it slipped his mind.
“What the hell happened after we left?” I ask through a laugh. “Funny story,” Cam slurs. “We were exhausted. And overworked. We were exhaustitworked.”
“You lying liars who lie!”
“You’re really pretty,” he slurs. “Do you have a boyfriend?” Jesus Christ. “Yep.” He exhales sadly. “Damn. He’s really lucky.”
“Hayes, baby,” I say sweetly. “You are my boyfriend.” His eyes light up. “Really? Me?” I nod. “That’s fucking sweet!”
“Hi.” I giggle softly. “Hi. We have to get you undressed.” He nods. “Okay, but then you have to leave.” “What? Why?” “Because I have a girlfriend.” It looks like he’s trying to focus, but it’s not going well. “And I’m sure you’re great, but she’s the only one that’s allowed to ride my dick like a rodeo.”
“D-did you just ask me to move in with you?” “No,” he says with a mouthful of donut, and my stomach drops for a second. “I told you to move in with me. There’s a difference.”
My other half. My favorite person. My once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. So, as I walk out with a little velvet box bulging from my pocket, there isn’t a doubt in my mind that it was always going to come to this.
“You’re it for me, Laiken. I don’t care if it’s been a few months or thirty goddamn years. That isn’t going to change. So, you can say no and we can play the long game if that’s what you want. We can take it slow. But I’m going to spend the rest of my life loving you, regardless.” A single tear slides down her cheek and I gently wipe it away. “This isn’t me trying to rush into something to get my way. This is me acting on what I want with absolute certainty that it’s the right move—because you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I don’t need to wait in order to know that

“Laiken Rose,” I say, looking up at her and almost swaying from the intensity of my feelings for her. “If I’ve learned anything over the last few months, it’s that this life isn’t worth living if I don’t have you by my side. I’m already the luckiest man in the world for getting any time with you at all, but I’m greedy and I want every second you have to give. So, for the love of God, marry me, because anything less than forever with you just isn’t enough for me.”
“It’s fast. I know.” “It’s NASCAR,” she corrects.
“I know she talks in her sleep if she drinks caffeine before bed. And that while she acts like a badass, and a part of her is, she’s also fragile and would throw herself on a blade to protect those she loves. I know that she doubts herself on a constant basis, even though she’s the most amazing person I’ve ever met.” As a distraction, I pick at a string on my jeans while Cam stays completely silent. “And I know her older brother is one of her favorite people in the world, and if he won’t be at our wedding, there won’t be one because he’s one of the most important people in her life…and in

“Damn, babe. What kind of magical pussy do you have?”
“And if he ever hurts you, he’s going to be a very dead man.”
