I made myself uncomfortable for him without even considering what I wanted. I’ll have to unlearn that.
“I’m sorry I made you feel like you were not worthy of me, kiska. I’m sorry I forced you into a loveless marriage. But I’m most sorry for making you think that I didn’t care. Because the truth is, I love you, Paige Orlov.” He brings my hands to his lips, pressing a kiss to my knuckle. “I’m sorry I took so long to say it.”

Then he reaches around behind him and reveals a small, sleek dagger. It’s sheathed in black leather, but when I pull it out of the holster, it gleams wickedly. “It’s so beautiful,” I murmur. “So tiny, too.” “Just what every man likes to hear about his weapon.” I snort with laughter.
She’s gorgeous and dripping with diamonds, and her boobs have enough plastic to keep Lego in business for centuries.
“You’re working yourself up,” I tell her, in the calm voice that I know riles her up even more. “Go get some sleep.”
All those years ago, I let her shut me up like that. Now, I wish I’d kept asking. Kept nagging. Because one little scar turned into more, and more, and more. Until she drew a cut that she wouldn’t ever come back from.
“There was a lot going on. I know, I get it. But I’m glad you told me the truth now. You know what this is right here?” I ask, gesturing between the two of us. “What?” “Growth!” He stares at me blankly for a second. Then he bursts out laughing.
