The large sea monster appeared every ten years to claim a human wife, threatening to destroy the village if they didn't pay up. As an orphan, Mary was a convenient choice as the latest sacrifice. No family would miss her and the villages didn't have to bother keeping her alive. "Selfish bastards," Mary hissed as she clenched her fist. A wave of cool ocean water rolled over her feet. Nobody knew what happened to the women who were sacrificed. Mary assumed that the sea monster ate them. As the elders continued to chant, the ocean erupted and a massive creature burst out of the water.
