“I’ll get you the world if you need it.”
“Don’t leave me,” she whispered into the silence. “Please don’t leave me.”
Fortune unhealing. Huntsman without the strength. The very world seemed to hold its breath at this change in its nature, but no skies were falling, and the ground remained even. Now they were mere people, civilians plucked off the streets.
It was not an utter resolution—far from it. But it was a moment forged out of sweat and blood, carved painfully from the ground that whispered maybe she ought to learn to forgive herself, and Rosalind was trying to listen.
She had lived a long past life being hidden as a secret, and the habits were hard to shake, the expectations hard to rebuild.
The next month lay uncertain, as did the very next day, but no longer was it time spent in the shadows, hidden without love. “Yes,” she whispered. “It’s a yes.”
