“You know, Oliver”—Celia slapped her hand down, leaning forward—“it is really hard to provoke my temper, but somehow you are incredibly good at it.” The faintest hint of a smile tugged at his lips. “I have missed you quite fiercely.”
The truth was that he needed her. At every waking moment, if there was nothing dependent on him, then he might crumble into dust and ash.
Phoebe was… He didn’t even know how to describe Phoebe. An ever-expanding supernova. A hurricane that changed worlds and remade them.
“I would have found you anywhere.” He reached forward. Tugged that piece of her hair, then tucked the curl behind her ear. “Across the world and under it. No matter how well you hide. It doesn’t matter where you go. I’ll always find you. Understand?”
“Those two are backstory. Forget about them.” “Ouch,” Roma said at the door. “We’re sensitive,” Juliette added.
“Until you get your memories back,” Rosalind continued, “you probably shouldn’t decide yet whether you’re going to betray them.” “But you are going on this rescue.” “Of course.” “Then I must as well,” Orion concluded. “You are my side. It is not betrayal.”
“So,” Alisa said as she and Orion started to walk west. “Do you want to hear all the juicy parts of the story that Rosalind skimmed over?” Orion grinned. “Oh, do I.”
“I feel as though you forget that you don’t have to take pain just because you can.”
“My name is Rosalind.” She gave a wave. “It’s all right if you forget me. Au revoir.”
“It’s not a crime to be born into privilege,” Oliver muttered like he hadn’t heard him. “What matters is using it instead of closing your eyes to it.”
“You listen to me,” he said, grabbing Rosalind’s face with both hands. “You are bound to me in matrimony. If you break it and descend into another plane of existence, I will chase after you and snatch you back.”
I believe in you, Orion thought. Before I put my faith with anything, I would put it with you.
“Your life is mine as mine is yours—do you understand me? You are not allowed to die.”
