The nature of the world is such that when we create something, we often destroy something else in the process.
It is called Ruin, Vin thought. It will destroy everything.
They never understood that without the microbes and plants Rashek had developed to break down the ash particles, the land would quickly have been buried. Though of course that did eventually happen anyway.
And so, a kandra granted the Blessing of Potency is actually acquiring a bit of innate strength similar to that of burning pewter. The Blessing of Presence grants mental capacity in a similar way, while the Blessing of Awareness is the ability to sense with greater acuity, and the rarely used Blessing of Stability grants emotional fortitude.
Adonalsium.
Never let your life depend on the competence of someone whose life isn’t also on the line.
When you’re alone, no one can betray you, a voice whispered in the back of her mind. Reen’s voice. The voice she heard sometimes, almost real, like a conscience. She’d taken it for granted that the voice was merely part of her psyche—something left over from Reen’s teachings. An instinct. Anyone will betray you, Vin, the voice said, repeating a bit of advice it commonly gave. As it spoke, it slowly slid from Reen’s voice into that of Ruin. Anyone. I’ve always been with you. You’ve heard me in your mind since your first years of life.

“Faith isn’t about logic, son,”
There is at least one other case of a person who could pierce copperclouds. In her case, however, the situation was slightly different. She was a Mistborn from birth, and her sister was the Seeker. The death of that sister—and subsequent inheritance of power via the Hemalurgic spike used to kill that sister— left her twice as strong at burning bronze as a typical Mistborn. And that let her see through the copperclouds of lesser Allomancers.
The life of a person is more than the chaos of its passing. Emotion, Ruin. This is your defeat.
A small body lay beside his. Sazed fell to his knees, grabbing Vin by the shoulders. Near her, atop the pile of koloss, lay another body—of a man with red hair whom Sazed did not recognize, but he ignored it.
Of all of us who touched it, I feel she was the most worthy.
“No, I’m not troubled. In fact, I think that everything is going to be all right. Finally.”
