It wasn’t that I didn’t want to… I couldn’t. He threatened to kill me if I ever left him again, and I believed that he would do it. This wasn’t the first child I’d lost on his behalf. Because of him, I now had three dead babies.
Ummm she should have been trying to k... Him in his sleep. Poison or something cuz this is too much.
He smiled, and for the first time, I noticed the two gold plated teeth in his mouth. It caused the corners of my mouth to turn upward. “The gold always gets them,” he jested, patting my hand before gathering the papers he’d given me. “I’m gonna get going. I’ll call you if I get any new information; otherwise, I’ll be back to check in on you tomorrow.”
My Love, I know you don’t want to see me. I know you’re embarrassed but I need you to know that I’m here. I see you, Adina. I see you and I love you. Nothing you say or do will ever diminish that. Please be kind to yourself today. You deserve to give yourself grace. The journey ahead is long but the destination will be beautiful. Love, Cartel
“You won’t get away from me so easy, bitch. Everywhere you go, every time you close your eyes, you’re gonna see me. Enjoy this freedom train while you can because once I get my hands on you, I’m finishing what the fuck I started. You and your little boyfriend are dead, bitch! Just like that fucking baby! You hear me? You’re fucking dead!”
“That’s fine by me. Tell them the truth, Adina. I didn’t just play with Dominic. I had my fun with you too.” Before I knew it, I had the knife to her neck. The kitchen erupted with movement and voices, telling me to put it down. I could hear Jamison telling the kids to go upstairs a few seconds before him, Cartel, and Walker appeared around the corner.
“You have a mean ass right hook,” Walker complimented. “I would have cut the bitch,” Jorja said. “Jorja!” Liv hissed in her direction. “What! Listen, if Adina had jumped on her, I was jumping right in. This is my girl; if she’s swinging, I’m swinging. She’s lucky she only walked away with a bloody, broken nose. Reese, how did you even meet that trash ass bitch?”
“You doing all that over a female you don’t wanna be with?” I asked. “Make it make sense.” “Look… she’s mine, alright. My nigga. My best friend. Even if I ain’t ready to give her commitment, I don’t want her giving that shit to anybody else.” “That’s toxic as fuck,” Jamison said. “You are too old for this shit, Walk. I’ve never known you to be that selfish, man.” “I’m not selfish. I fucks with Ja, on some real shit. I’d do anything for her and to protect her. I cut off my hoes. I’m not fucking with any other female. She’s with me all the damn time. I just… I’m not ready to be tied down.”
He chuckled. “I see you, baby. Cat got your tongue, Adina? You really think you’re safe, bitch? I could get to you anytime I want. I prefer to make you sweat though. Pissed your pants lately?” I remembered that embarrassing day. I’d never forget it. “Awww, what’s wrong, baby?” he taunted. “You know I don’t like being ignored, Adina. I got something to make you speak.”
Death was better than bondage. I was away from Dominic, but I wasn’t free. He lived in my mind. He lived in my thoughts, and he was trying to make his way back into my world. I couldn’t shake him. I couldn’t escape him. It was like he was waiting in the shadows for the perfect moment to jump out. His scare tactics were working. I actively feared for my life. I couldn’t think straight, and I was mentally exhausted.
