Ophelia flashed me a white smile. She had one tooth that was the tiniest bit crooked in the front, and it was fucking cute.
“I don’t want to save you. The moment I fucked you, you became mine. I own you. Your body is mine to use whenever and however I want. Why the hell would I want to let you go? I’m nowhere near done with you.”
“Next time I get the urge to please you, fucking let me or I’ll drown you in my come,” he whispered.
“I don’t do what I do because I’m a saint. I do it because I’m a demon disguised as one.”
We were heading for the deep end without a life preserver. No one was there to save us, and we were too caught up in each other to save ourselves.
“Maybe it’s not burning you, Alex, but I’m on fire.” He rested his chin on my chest. “I can’t give you heaven, but I can make hell feel good sometimes.”
He was a demon fighting the hold of the devil, steering his flames in other directions. He couldn’t save me. No matter how hard he tried, the devil still found ways to set me alight.
“You’re shaking up everything I’ve ever known. Tearing apart decades of conditioning. It’s fucking terrifying. Feeling things is worse than feeling nothing at all.”
“At first I saw you as a villain, but I’ve come to realize you’re actually a victim of circumstance.”
“Ready . . . set . . .” His twisted laugh cut through the tension, leaving them hanging over their plates like dogs waiting for the command to eat. “Go!” Gunnir hollered with a clap of his hands.
“I want you, Alex,” she whispered. “I go to other places in my mind when you take me because I need to escape what’s happening around me. Now I need to escape what’s happening by being taken.” She took a step forward, pressing her bare chest against me, and waited for me to make my move.
“Why’d you kill him?” Alex scoffed. “Because he touched you. I needed to save you from him.”
“Because you need to be pushed away. You need to be afraid of me.”
“You aren’t ruined in my eyes. You’re beautiful and broken, but you have the strength to pull yourself together.
“Then don’t just leave it. Burn it down. Burn it all.”
“It doesn’t define you. What defines you is what you do now. “
Family never felt like family in our home. It just meant we shared the same blood, and as The Man used to always say, come is thicker than blood.
“Please don’t ask me to explain why and how I’ve forgiven all you’ve done. I don’t have the answers!”
“I hate you for making me fall for you. I hate that the thought of a life without you makes me fucking sick, because it should be the opposite. I should be glad you want to leave!”
“If you walk out that door, you’re taking the only part of me that feels something. Haven’t you taken enough from me?”
“I love you, Ophelia, and I refuse to let love hurt you this time.”
Somehow, she’d found freedom within captivity, but I found mine within her.
“I won’t fuck you like a captive, O, but I’ll fuck you like I still own you, because your body is mine. This is mine,”
