“You shouldn’t need me to give you answers, Little Bee. That’s the point. If something is worth remembering, you’d remember.”
“You used to know the answer to that too. I’m deathly allergic to bees, Lucy, and the only thing more detrimental to my health is you—the way you affect me.”
I glance over at him and he turns his head to meet my gaze. When he looks at me like that, like I’m his whole entire world, I want nothing more than for him to hold me in his arms. To relish the feeling of being someone’s everything. I know I’ve had a privileged life. I have good parents. The best brother a girl could ask for. A best friend I’d die for. I’ve had everything I’ve ever wanted handed to me. But what Dominic gives me with this one look… I’ve never had that and it’s the one thing I’ve craved for so long.
“I must have really liked you,” she says. “It was just as unbelievable to me too,” I admit, and she smiles a little.
Holy shit. I just realized I’m in love with Dominic McKinley, we’re in the middle of nowhere, and he’s having an anaphylactic reaction to a bee sting.
“Because the love that we have—yeah, it might end up being our downfall—but it’s a fall I’ll take if it means taking it with you. I love you, Lucy, more than I’ve ever loved anything in my life. I honestly don’t think I knew what love was before you. Marry me, because you know as much as I do, that this is it for us. You’re the other half of my soul, and I’m yours. Admit it. Even when you couldn’t remember me, you were still pulled to me. When I had to go back to watching from the sidelines, I broke. I don’t ever want either of us to feel like that again. So marry me, Lucy.”
“No matter what happens, I love you. Always, and my answer is yes,” I tell him. “Yes?” he parrots. “Yes.” I nod my head. “Thank fuck, because I really didn’t want to have to force you to marry me.” He smirks.
I pull away from his kiss and look up at him. “I’m kind of fond of you too, so don’t make me live without you,” I tell him.
I used to think she’d be my downfall, that her touch would damage me beyond repair. And I was right. Because this obsession, love, devotion I have for my Little Bee is nothing short of terminal. It’s also a life sentence because I will love this woman till the day I die. And long after too.
