In one of the most brutal domestic terrorist attacks in American history, a mob of at least five hundred white supremacists, armed and dressed in their paramilitary red shirts, marched through the streets of Wilmington, shooting bystanders, attacking Black churches, and burning the city’s only Black-owned newspaper to the ground.
