“You know how when someone tells you a secret, you get an unspoken pass to tell your spouse?” Cameron said. “Is that how it works?” I asked. He ignored me. “Jax is the spouse I get to tell.” “Thanks,” Jax said dryly. I nodded sagely. “Considering the complete lack of a woman in your life, I will concede that point.”

Beckett glanced at the bed, staring hard for a beat. “I like to sleep closest to the door,” he said. He held my gaze for a long moment, and I finally nodded. “You got it. You can be my body shield if someone breaks in.” “That’s the idea,” he murmured. “Though knowing you, you’d probably have your taser out before I even wake up.”

“I’m going to regret answering this phone call, aren’t I?” he said. “Most likely.”
