“I like having a husband,” I said quietly. “Remind yourself of that when I piss you off,” he said. “I’m sure it’ll happen soon enough.”
“You ready to do this?” he asked me quietly. “Me and Olive and Clarence and all the rest of it?” I turned in his arms, my eyes closed and my heart so full that I could hardly believe it was real. It was the easiest truth I’d ever told in my life. “I’ve always been ready for this. I just hadn’t met you yet.”
They both wore Coleman jerseys, and the sight of both of them with my last name on their backs had my chest aching. For years, I’d been missing this—and I’d hardly even noticed.
Quietly, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and zoomed in on the two of them, just as Greer crouched down to say something to Olive.
“I’ll show you later just how that last touchdown made me feel,” she whispered into my ear.
