Sartaq whispered in Nesryn’s ear, “I was praying to the Eternal Sky and all thirty-six gods that you’d say yes.” She smiled, even if he couldn’t see it. “So was I,” Nesryn breathed, and they leaped into the skies.
“They didn’t mention that you’re beautiful.”
“What?” she asked, and he realized he’d been staring. “Thank you for tonight,” Chaol said, stifling what tried to leap off his tongue: I can’t take my eyes off you.
Until her back hit the wall, the sconce on it rattling. As if she’d lost track of where she was. Chaol was instantly upon her.
He’d taken the impact for her, moved her so that he’d hit it first—
Sartaq chuckled. “I did. But I also told him that the woman I love now plans to head into war. And I intend to follow her.”
