Coal was silent next to me. His palm was out as he let me play with his fingers, but his silence had me worried. Did he mind? “Do you still like me even after finding out I’m not human?” I worked up the courage to ask, because even if I was okay with this, it would be devastating if he wasn’t. “You didn’t care what I was, so why would I?” Coal said with a shrug. He turned completely to face me and used his other hand to cup my cheek. I automatically leaned into his palm. “I didn’t fall in love with you because you were human. I fell in love with you because you’re you.”
