“Shouldn’t you be, I don’t know, skating around?”
“Can’t. I just met my future wife and I need to know if she’s single.”
And he’s clearly not the guy for her. If she were mine, I’d never take my eyes off her.
“I look forward to it, Bridget.”
“It’s okay, Nurse Bridget. You have all night to make it up to me.”
“With good reason. I met a ten. You don’t shake off a ten that easily.”
If she’s a ten, then every other girl I’ve ever called
a ten was really a six. I’m going to have to redo my entire scale. Zero to Bridget.
“Everyone but you.”
My girl has her head
bowed over a book, wearing a pair of cute glasses. Sexy nurse meets sexy librarian. That’s a fantasy mash-up I never saw coming.
“No. I meant sleep is impossible because I know you’re down here.”
“Ex-boyfriend.” Hannah’s big grin matches mine. Giddiness I haven’t felt since I was a kid spreads through me. They broke up. Hell yeah. Best news I’ve had all day.
“Did you think keeping me company was code for getting naked or something? I’m shocked, Bridget.”
“It brought us together and now I can ask you out, so yeah.”
“I can take care of myself.” “I know, but you should have people that look out for you
“Can I have more of the lemon drop?” Without tearing my gaze from hers, I lift the cup to my mouth and take a sip.
“I thought you made that for me.” She smirks, then tracks the movement, her gaze darting to my lips and then to my throat as I swallow. Instead of handing over the cup, I press my mouth to hers.
Bridget, I owe you a drink. – Ash
I panicked and sent roses to your house about twenty minutes ago.
The best kiss I ever had was with this smoking hot girl I met at work. Yep. Yep. That’s jealousy making the sugar cookie turn bitter in my mouth.
Wow. At work? Scandalous. I guess mine was probably this guy I dated briefly my freshman year of college. Ash Jesus, woman. I meant you. I met you at work. Brb, gonna go jump off a cliff.
“Fucking hell,” he mutters, stopping in front of me. He slowly brings his stare up to my face. “My heart just stopped for a second. I forgot how gorgeous you are. Damn, it’s good to see you.”
“Yeah. I was too busy checking you out to notice.”
“Oh my god. That was bad even for you.”
“Let’s just say we need to make sure you’re ready for me.”
“Ready for me, babe?”
“I like it when you say my name,”
can’t go another day without seeing you.”
“Yeah. I can’t go another day without seeing you either.”
“Looks better on you anyway.”
“I want you to be mine, Bridge,”
but I’m yours.”
In two hours and one minute, you’re mine.”
“Last night you said this was supposed to be casual but, Bridge, the way I feel about you isn’t casual. It never was. I want to be with you. I want to take you on dates and vacations and out with my friends. Hell, I woke up yesterday morning thinking about asking you to move in with me. I’m sure that freaks you out right now, but I want you to know where I stand. I’m crazy about you and I’m not giving up. We’re going to figure this out.”
“My girlfriend is the hottest woman alive. Or dead. You’re the hottest woman to ever exist.”
“Always showing off for the ladies.” “Nah, just for you now, babe.”
“I used to dream about the kind of guy I’d end up with, too. What he’d look like, where he’d take me, and all the sweet and romantic things he’d do.” “Yeah?” One side of his mouth quirks up. “Yeah.” I nod. “And you’re so much better.”
And my man made the winning goal.
“Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine loving someone as much as I love you, Bridget. I didn’t know it was possible, and yet somehow, I know I’ll love you even more tomorrow. I thought I had everything I wanted before I met you. A great job, an awesome family, the best teammates.”
“but these past few months have been the best of my life. You’re it for me. I knew it from the first time I saw you. Marry me?”
“I’ll marry you, Ash Kelly.”
