It’s then that a blonde on the other side of the arena catches my eye. Possibly it’s because she’s one of the few women not looking my way.
“If you don’t want to keep it, you could write your number on it and throw it back,”
If she’s a ten, then every other girl I’ve ever called a ten was really a six. I’m going to have to redo my entire scale. Zero to Bridget.
“Ex-boyfriend.” Hannah’s big grin matches mine. Giddiness I haven’t felt since I was a kid spreads through me. They broke up. Hell yeah. Best news I’ve had all day.
“How do you know he didn’t break up with me?” He scoffs. “Nobody is that stupid.”
There are two different kinds of women: the ones who can perfect winged eyeliner and the rest of us.
Ash How about I go first? Me Sure. If you want. Ash The best kiss I ever had was with this smoking hot girl I met at work. Yep. Yep. That’s jealousy making the sugar cookie turn bitter in my mouth. Me Wow. At work? Scandalous. I guess mine was probably this guy I dated briefly my freshman year of college. Ash Jesus, woman. I meant you. I met you at work. Brb, gonna go jump off a cliff.
“Fucking hell,” he mutters, stopping in front of me. He slowly brings his stare up to my face. “My heart just stopped for a second. I forgot how gorgeous you are. Damn, it’s good to see you.”
“She’s pretty.” “Probably.” “Probably?” “Yeah. I was too busy checking you out to notice.” “Oh my god. That was bad even for you.” “Even for me?” “The things that come out of your mouth remind me of the boys in junior high.” “Worked then and works now.” “You wish.” She laughs again.
“I like it when you say my name,” he says as his lips sweep over mine. “Ash,” I say again as he licks my neck and then sucks. “Been dreaming about this since the first time I saw you,”
“I’m sorry about the game.” He hums, then the tips of his fingers graze the lacy material between my thighs. His lips go to my neck and work their way down to my collarbone. “You’ll get them next time, or whatever they say in this scenario.” I jolt when his thumb strokes my clit over my panties. “In this scenario, the only thing I want you to say is my name, babe.” “Ash,” I say, far breathier than intended. “That’s it.” His fingers slip underneath the material. “Lie back, baby. I need to taste you.” “Here?” “Right fucking here. I can’t wait.”
Goddamnmotherfuckershitfuckdammit.
Motherfuckingcockfuckasshole.
“This is a good thing. I can’t ask you to make a life with me when it means having him in our lives, and Bridge…I want to make a life with you. I know you have a few months left of school, but once I get settled somewhere then maybe you can look for a job there. Or we’ll do long distance. It’s all negotiable except you. I love you so damn much and I’m really hoping you feel the same. I want to date you and tell the whole damn world that I’ve fallen for you. I don’t want to hide.”
That’s when I look for Bridget. She’s standing with thousands of others, but I could pick her out even if I didn’t know exactly where to find her. She’s my heart existing outside of my body.
