“Can’t. I just met my future wife and I need to know if she’s single.”
sometimes you just get a feeling with people. I got that with her.
If she’s a ten, then every other girl I’ve ever called a ten was really a six. I’m going to have to redo my entire scale. Zero to Bridget.
“You deserve nice things,”
My heart skitters to a stop. Hell yeah. Bridget is here.
There’s something about him that puts me at ease and makes my heart feel like it’s going to explode all at once.
“Yeah. It’s like everything inside of you is on fire and at the same time you’re so aware of every thrum of your pulse in a way that you usually don’t notice.”
want to be one of those people for you.” “Why? You don’t even really know me.” “I guess not, but that’s not how it feels when I’m around you.”
The best kiss I ever had was with this smoking hot girl I met at work. Yep. Yep. That’s jealousy making the sugar cookie turn bitter in my mouth. Me Wow. At work? Scandalous. I guess mine was probably this guy I dated briefly my freshman year of college. Ash Jesus, woman. I meant you. I met you at work. Brb, gonna go jump off a cliff.
“You must really hate hanging ornaments.” “Or really like looking at you.”
“Fucking hell,” he mutters, stopping in front of me. He slowly brings his stare up to my face. “My heart just stopped for a second. I forgot how gorgeous you are. Damn, it’s good to see you.”
“Yeah. I was too busy checking you out to notice.” “Oh my god. That was bad even for you.”
“I’ll take you as close as I can get you.”
“I think my heart catapulted out of my body when I realized it was your car. It’s really you?” “In the flesh.”
God, I like him. I run my finger along the screen. Like maybe love him like him.
GODDAMNMOTHERFUCKERSHITFUCKDAMMIT
“I wanna fucking burn him alive.”
“If anyone gets to do the honors, it should be me.” “I’ll hand you the matches.”
“I won’t break.” “Never, babe. You’re the toughest girl I know.”
“Last night you said this was supposed to be casual but, Bridge, the way I feel about you isn’t casual. It never was. I want to be with you. I want to take you on dates and vacations and out with my friends. Hell, I woke up yesterday morning thinking about asking you to move in with me. I’m sure that freaks you out right now, but I want you to know where I stand. I’m crazy about you and I’m not giving up. We’re going to figure this out.”
“Damn you for being such good friends.” She grins. “Just giving it back the same way you give.”
“Ash is twice the man you’ll ever be.”
It’s all negotiable except you. I love you so damn much and I’m really hoping you feel the same. I want to date you and tell the whole damn world that I’ve fallen for you. I don’t want to hide.”
“You kept the puck I gave you? You said you gave it away.” “I didn’t even know you, but I wanted to keep some piece of you with me. Now that I do know you and your big heart, I want to keep all of you.”
“My best kiss…you. And my favorite celebrity crush is…also you.” Instead of the cocky retort I was sure was coming, his face softens. “I love you.” “I love you too.”
She’s standing with thousands of others, but I could pick her out even if I didn’t know exactly where to find her. She’s my heart existing outside of my body.
“Someday all that will fade. But me and you…I can see us in the distance.”
“I used to dream about the kind of guy I’d end up with, too. What he’d look like, where he’d take me, and all the sweet and romantic things he’d do.” “Yeah?” One side of his mouth quirks up. “Yeah.” I nod. “And you’re so much better.”
“Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine loving someone as much as I love you, Bridget. I didn’t know it was possible, and yet somehow, I know I’ll love you even more tomorrow. I thought I had everything I wanted before I met you. A great job, an awesome family, the best teammates.” His buddies all cheer again and Ash chuckles softly before he continues, “but these past few months have been the best of my life. You’re it for me. I knew it from the first time I saw you. Marry me?”
“Yes.” I nod and a tear slides down my face. “I’ll marry you, Ash Kelly.” Everything he said—I feel that too. So much better than my wildest dreams. He pushed past every wall I tried to build around myself and in return, he’s given me everything.
