Scars were funny things. Some people wore them like a badge of honour, some people hid

them, and some didn’t seem to think of them at all. Then there were those of us that had ours on the inside. Sometimes the ones no one could see were the deepest.

‘Sometimes it’s even harder once you’ve invested in something. Leaving means giving up on that, which is hard. Even when you know it’s the right thing to do.’

Rumi stared at Matt for a second then turned to me. ‘Seriously. Marry him. Today if possible.’

I think life can put you in situations that force you to find something to believe in. For some people that’s God, whichever of those they choose. For others it’s fate and the universe.’

‘Doubting yourself. I can tell. Believe me, there’s enough people out there who want to tear others down. You’ve got to be your own champion, not your own enemy.’

I wasn’t that person and she deserved better.’ ‘I’m sure you tried.’ ‘Yes. I did. But you can’t change who you are.’ ‘No. Although we can try and improve aspects of ourselves.’

although I had a feeling that Matt had one ear on that and the rest of his Spidey senses tuned in my direction.

‘Fleur?’

‘I can handle it.’

‘I know. But if you want us, you know where we are.’

‘Probably. But none of them are as pretty as you so I think I’m going to stay right here if that’s all right.’

‘That you keep me grounded. Even halfway up a mountain with you, my feet and ego are firmly planted.’

You can’t rely on one person for your happiness. You have to find that within you.
